Week 8
Brainstorming
Telephone Wires
For the telephone wires hanging across the street I will either manually extrude and curve them across the entire alley or I will use the Catenary Curve addon, referred to as Add Curve: Extra Objects Add-on in blender, and follow the tutorial in the video that follows. I am leaning towards a solid colour texture because first of all no focus should be brought to the wires they are mostly ambiance and a way to add clutter to the scene, secondly should be covered up by the fog in the scene, and lastly one the neon signs are added those should draw more attention than the wires do.
Lighting
Originally I was going to use the Filmic Add-on to help light the animation as a whole but following a tutorial by Blender Guru. However, a recent discovery led to me finding out that Filmic was somewhat added during Blender 2.79, and that there are now not many good tutorials on how to properly use the parts of Filmic added for Blender 2.9. while a minor setback a bit of fiddling has led to a vague understanding of how to use these features, and while I wish to implement it now I am hesitant because it might end up causing more issues farther down the line. this leaves me with an option for lighting but I believe I might be able to find a better solution.
Texturing
I recently started dabbling in creating my own textures. While I haven't implemented any of these textures it does expand the locations I can acquire photorealistic textures. instead of relying on websites like Polligon or Poly Haven I am able to take good quality diffuse images and create my own normal, ambient occlusion, rough, and Displacement maps.
