End of Marking Period 3

Intention Definition & Exploration of Ideas      My concept was looking inwards, more specifically about how the little things in a day can add up to a breaking point and how it can effect someone almost as bad as if one big thing happened. The reason I wanted to go with this theme is because when ever I have days when so many things are stacking up it feels like complaining if I ever try to tell anyone, so by making an animation that visualizes this feeling it is a way to help people understand that even though nothing really big happened it still has an emotional toll.  Planning     For most of Marking period three I was rigging and readjusting my ghosts. Most of the work I got done was either things I learned Sophomore year or was self taught. however I did need assistance with however was keeping Sadness cloud above their head. I ended up needing to have a post made on Blenderartist for assistance which lead me to the solution of parenti...

Week ??? (Make up)

This tutorial taught me how to quickly rig a human character and the basics for how to rig a nonhumanoid mesh. I also didn't know that there was a symmetry button I can use to get an exact replica of one side of an armature which really helps a lot. In addition to this tutorial teaching me some good ground work for rigging it also showed me quite a few shortcuts I can use when rigging to make it go quicker.

Week ??? (Make up)

In this video I learned how to efficiently weight paint a mesh and some of the glitches Blender has when it comes to weight painting. I didn't know that there was a way to make the brush shade a flat weight instead of falling off at the edges when painting. Also This video taught me a few strategies for getting a good weight on all the verities, such as adding verities or slowly adjusting individual ones to get the desired result.

Week 14

This week I struggled with keeping the cloud over Sadness because if I added it to the armature for sadness it would rotate with the armature which I didn't want it to. then I tried looking at the line graph to try to reset the rotation but that also didn't work because there was no rotation data there. This left we with only being able to ask for help via Blender Artist. After a bit of time the recommendation to use a Child of constraint on the cloud and to disable rotation which would have worked but the way I animated my ghosties made it not work, so this time I animated the cloud by hand and when I do my final animation I'll use the method that with let the constraint work.

I have been inspired by many of my peers, however the three that inspired me the most are Abigail, Nyair, and Tina. this is because they have been working very hard on things that either I have also been working on or things I will have to work on.   Abigail     What  Abigail's blogpost  inspired is for me to add some vegetation as detailing. She inspired this because her trees and leaves are extremely detailed and look quite calming, so this made me want to add vegetation anywhere the protagonist feels comfortable and if a place becomes uncomfortable I can just have the plant die. Also Abigail's blogpost helped me consider using texture painting when trying to texture more abstract objects.   Nyair       Nyair's blogpost  helped me understand and have the confidence to undertake detailed character design. this is because of how well she plans her characters and how she plans to have the style of her setting and the st...

While I used this tutorial to make a unanimated cloud it taught me how I would use meatballs to make lumpy meshes that blend together nicely.     For the Sheet on the bed I followed a tutorial for a cloth simulation. It went mostly well except either th...

Inspiration/Artist In the Pixar movie Brave, character design is one of the best things it does. The reason for this is because each Character while historically accurate also shows what kind of person they are. Merida has a tight dress with ripped seems and a confident but not proper postiche to show her rebellious nature while in contrast her mother has a looser dress green dress with gold highlights plus perfect postiche making her seem powerful not because a crown is backing her but from her own will.      Brave inspired me to look at more than just making a model look good but to also look at what each little thing could possibly mean. In addition to this something that each character in the movie has is a particle system for their hair instead of having a mesh making the characters much more detailed. If I were to follow suit like I wish to I would probably use the following tutorial. However this is only if I believe at the time that with the addition of...
